  • Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the tenth Prime Minister of Pakistan, serving from 1973 until 1977, when he was imprisoned by General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. From 1971 to 1973, he was President and Chief Martial Law Administrator. He was executed by hanging on April 4, 1979.
  • Bhutto's Execution

    The Pakistan People's Party won general elections on March 7, 1977. They were accused of rigging the election, and agreed to hold new elections. Before the date of the new elections, General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq imposed martial law, arrested Bhutto, and dissolved the government. Bhutto was tried and executed for the alleged murder of a political opponent. The trial was generally considered fixed.
