American anthropologist, author and folklorist Zora Neale Hurston began her literary career during the Harlem Renaissance. Her best known work, Their Eyes Were Watching God, was adapted to film in 2005.
Career
Hurston's first novel Mules and Men was published in 1935 followed by Their Eyes Were Watching God in 1937.
Hurston spent the last decade of her life as a freelance writer for magazines and newspapers.
Hurston died of heart disease in 1960.
