Zoloft is the trade name for Sertraline HCL as produced by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Sertraline is used as an antidepressant and is of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) family and works by preventing the reuptake of serotonin by the issuing nerve cell thereby increasing the amount of free serotonin affecting the brain.
