  • Features and Functions

There are five different Zhu Zhu Pet hamsters - Chunk, PipSqueak, Mr. Squiggles, Num Nums, and Patches - and each one of them possesses their own fun attributes and sounds. Built-in audio and mechancial responses (artificial intelligence due to a code reader) allow them to react to their surroundings through noises and changes of direction.

All five hamsters are built with motorized wheels which allow them race across floors, maneuver through the Zhu Zhu Pets funhouse and ride on the other accessories created for them, such as cars, skateboards and hamster wheels.

Zhu Zhu Pets also operate in three different modes - talk, explore and sleep mode. When in talk mode, the hamsters coo and make loving sounds when kids pets and cuddles them. In explore mode, the Zhu Zhu Pets perform silly movements and sounds as they race around the room or playset. In this setting, they also back up and change direction whenever their noses come into contact with other objects. The third setting, sleep mode, the pets automatically shut off to conserve battery power until children wake them up by pressing a button to switch to a different mode.

Here's what The Mom Reviews had to say about Zhu Zhu Pets:

"The best part for parents? No feeding, no poop to clean up, and you can turn them off! One downfall...the habitat is large and isn't easy to take apart and reassemble when you want to put it away and bring it out. Hopefully you have an area to keep it out for a while!"http://www.themomreviews.com/2009/08/zhu-zhu-pets-hamsters-giveaway.html

LI Kids has this to say about the toy hamsters:

"While the Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters are not real pets, they are lifelike. Each hamster has its own personality. When you press on their backs, they move. They can move through the maze and if they get stuck or run into a wall they will back up and try a different route all on their own. Occasionally, they get stuck, but it is easy to open the playset and move them forward. We didn’t have this problem too much."http://www.li-kids.com/2009/09/15/li-toys-review-zhu-zhu-pets-playset-and-hamsters/

A customer had this warning to add on Buzzillions.com:

"My 5 year old daughter got this for her birthday and seemed to really like it. Unfortunately, she was holding it up to her ear to hear the noises it was making as the wheels on the bottom of the pet were turning. It got caught in her hair and nearly ripped her hair out by the roots! Luckily we were able to find the button to turn off the wheels and cut it loose from her hair. Was a very scary experience for everyone."http://www.buzzillions.com/review/cepia-zhu-pets-3-pack-hamsters-review-10289211?prRo=0&reviewSortBy=mostHelpfulFirst&prRpp=1

This customer review on Amazon.com sums up the good and bad about Zhu Zhu Pets:

"Good: Funny and varied sounds, cheap, cute, runs fast and randomly, fascinates my dog! Bad: Hard to find (for now), eats batteries, can pinch, can be broken with a moderate impact."http://buyzhuzhupets.com/
