Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a region on East Africa that consists of several islands and islets, including the islands Zanzibar and Pemba Islands. The region is located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania. The island of Zanzibar is often referred to as Unguja locally and its main city is named Stonetown. It is the largest of the two islands. Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region with its own legal system, but is also part of Tanzania. It became part of Tanzania when the country formed in 1964 by the union of the Zanzibar archipelago and Tanganyika. Zanzibar reportedly doesn't have any really large wild animals. There are forests that have monkeys and antelope and small pigs. There is however, a large bird population on the islands. They used to be the largest producer of cloves but now their main economy booster is tourism. They have about 100 thousand visitors a year.

Zanzibar has many sandy beaches, coral reefs and a variety of tourist activities, such as water sports. It is also known for the historical town Stone Town, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
