On July 6, 2005, Angelina Jolie adopted a six-month-old girl from Ethiopia, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, who was orphaned by AIDS. Zahara was born on January 8, 2005 as Tena Adam. Jolie renamed her Zahara, which means "flower" in Swahili, with her middle name "Marley" coming from late musician Bob Marley.

Adoption Controversy
Mentewab Dawit Lebiso claims to be the biological mother of Zahara. Almaz Elfneh, Zahara's grandmother, introduced the mother to In Touch Magazine and is now asking that Zahara be brought back to Africa. Because Mentewab never signed any option papers and therefore may be legally able to reestablish custody of Zahara rumors began to spread that she might be taken back however, the adoption was prove to be legal.
