Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, serves as the center of the country’s scientific, cultural, economic and political activities. - Andautonia Archaeological Park: Visit the remains of Andautonia, an ancient Roman village located just outside of Zagreb. The village served as a political, economic, cultural and religious center around the 17th century. Already excavated are parts of the village's main street, side streets and city baths.
- Croatian History Museum: This museum is located inside a palace called Vojkovic-Orsic-Rauch that was built at the close of the 18th century. Today, the palace holds more than 140,000 historic artifacts.
- Croatian National Theatre: The national theatre was built in 1894 and is home to world-class plays, opera, musicals and ballet performances.
- Arheoloski Muzej u Zahrebi (Zagreb's Archeological Museum): There are approximately 400,000 pieces in this museum's collection, mostly from Croatia. There are five main exhibition sections; they include prehistoric, Egyptian, ancient, medieval, and an extensive coin collection considered one the best in Europe. One of the most important artifacts in the museum is the Head of Plautilla from the ancient town of Salona.
- Katedrala Marijina Uznesenja: The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary features twin spires, which are the most important structure in the city.
- Etnografski Muzej: This museum is one of the best of its kind in Croatia. It chronicles the cultural history of the country through its collection of ceramics, jewelry, gold, musical instruments, tools, weapons and traditional folk costumes.
