YouTube Channels are typical for YouTube's "Broadcast yourself" slogan. When signing up, each user gets its own 'channel', allowing him/her to upload videos, favorite other member's video's, provide a personal info, and build up a network with other members.
The YouTube Channel comprises of several sections. The main section shows the last uploaded video by the member, accompanied by a section describing the video, comments, shares, ratings and other useful information about the video.
Next to that, a column lists all recent uploaded videos and favorites, which both can be sorted and arranged the way the member wants.
Below these two sections, visitors to the channel can find a profile biography and statistical details about the Channel's owner, including join date, last login date, total upload views, and more.
Separate sections present the member's subscriptions, subscribers and friends. Also shown are the latest received comments and activity. The channel's owner can freely change the layout and content of his channel, moving information sections, blocking other users or comments, add themes or color schemes, and set the type of Channel (YouTuber, Director, Musician, Comedian, Guru or Reporter).
Once set up, other users can subscribe to your channel, and you can similarly subscribe to others' channels. Once subscribed, warnings are issued when new content becomes available, similar to RSS feeds. The YouTube main screen will show content recently added on those channels you've subscribed to.http://www.youtube.com
When a channel becomes popular, YouTube allows its owner to earn money though the channel, by adding advertisements next to the video, on overlay banners, and in full screen short commercials, preceding the actual video playback. Several YouTube videos have been reported to have made extensive sums of money. A video capturing a young boy after a dentist appointment, being high on anesthetic made $30,000http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txqiwrbYGrs&feature=player_embedded, and a mockup video of a cat playing keyboard made its creator over $20,000 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J---aiyznGQ&feature=player_embeddedhttp://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1938810_1938806,00.html
