York University is located in Toronto, Canada and is the third largest university in the country. There are more than 47,000 undergraduate and 6,000 graduate students enrolled. Over 3,000 international students from 155 countries attend York University. York University History
York University was established in 1959 by the York University Act. The first class was held at University of Toronto in 1960. In 1961 the college moved to Glendon Hall, its first campus and became independent in 1965 after its affiliation with the University of Toronto.http://www.yorku.ca/secretariat/documents/act1965.htm A second campus, known as the Keele Campus, was opened in 1965 and became the main campus on the university. Most of the faculties are on this campus, including arts, fine arts, environmental studies, science and engineering, education and health. The Glendon campus is now known primarily as a bilingual liberal arts college and offers courses in both French and English.
In 2001, some classes were cancelled during an 11 week strike and in November, 2008 classes were suspended again when CUPE 3903, the union that represents the teaching assists, graduate assistants and faculty decided to strike.
