  • Yehudi Menuhin, Lord Menuhin of Stoke d'Abernon, was one of the pre-eminent violin virtuosos and conductors of the 20th Century. A child prodigy, he was born in New York, studied the instrument in the United States, France and Germany, collaborated with artists from around the globe, was a citizen of the USA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and passed away in Berlin. A committed humanitarian and prolific author, perhaps Lord Menuhin's most distinguished musical achievement was performing The Sonata for Solo Violin, which he commissioned from Béla Bartók. He is also known for the 500 performances he delivered for Allied Troops during World War II.
