Year of the Dog

Year of the Dog stars Molly Shannon as an administrative assistant whose beloved dog dies, leading her to explore meaningful human relationships.

Year of the Dog premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay. The film has a 69% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 70 on Metacritic. Ethan Alter of Premiere Magazine enjoyed the film as a showcase for Molly Shannon's talents, but thinks White tries too hard to direct like Wes Anderson or Jared Hess.

Though Year of the Dog was in theaters for 11 weeks, it expanded to a maximum of 152 theaters and earned a modest $1.5 million in its total domestic theatrical run. It earned $108,000 in its first weekend at seven theaters, a good showing for a film in such limited release.
