    YAZ is a contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy. It's generic names are drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. Other brand names are Yasmin and Ocella. YAZ and Yasmin are the common names, and are sometimes seen as yaz-yasmin. YAZ prevents ovulation and makes the uterus inhospitable to implantation. YAZ is also used to reduce acne and help with premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

    YAZ should only be used with a doctor's prescription. It is not safe for pregnant women to take the drug. YAZ can cause birth defects. YAZ is not safe for nursing mothers.
