  • Yankee Stadium, "The House that Ruth Built," is the home stadium of the New York Yankees. The 2008 season will be the final season for the stadium. The Yankees broke ground on a new stadium in 2006, which is expected to be completed for the 2009 regular season.

On November 8, 2008, the home plate and pitching rubber of the original Yankee stadium was removed and moved to the new stadium. Former players and Bronx youths helped a work crew with the transition, which included taking dirt from the original stadium and mixing it with the new venue. The symbolic gesture was meant to carry over the history and memories of the original field to the new one.ESPN.com: Former Yankees, youths help move playte, rubber to new stadium (November8, 2008)

Once the Yankees move to their new stadium, Yankee Stadium will be demolished. The NHL is in talks to hold a hockey game at Yankee Stadium, which may be the last event ever held there.ABC11.com: [http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/sports&id=6012631 Source: Yanks OK with
