    According to the victim, Crystal Samuel, Samuel met her friends at the Manning, South Carolina, Waffle House on the morning of May 10, 2009. Her friends, who had arrived earlier, ordered food for carryout, while waiting for Samuel to arrive.     Ward, who was their waitress, reportedly told the group that they were not permitted to eat from the takeout boxes while in the restaurant and asked them to leave. Samuel stated that she threw a waffle at Ward, which led to the two women going into the parking lot to fight. Ward allegedly retrieved a gun from her car and shot at Samuel.
