Background

XHTML is free for anyone to use to make webpages. W3C maintains and develops XHTML. On January 26, 2000 W3C recommended its use to the world as a replacement to the older and less dynamic HTML. Version 1.1 was released in August 2002. Work on version 2 was dropped after HTML 5 was completed. HTML 5 is recommended to replace XHTML, HTML and all other HTML variations.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XHTML
