Xbox Live Avatars

Microsoft officially unveiled Xbox Live Avatars at their E3 expo press conference on July 14, 2008. The customizable avatars are designed by Rare and can be used in-game as a player's character. The avatars were announced in conjunction with a Xbox dashboard redesign planned for the fall of 2008.
