Baseball Career
Out of high school, the St. Louis Cardinals drafted Nady in the fourth round of the 1997 amateur draft. Nady declined a contract however, choosing to play collegiate baseball at the University of California, Berkeley. After setting the Pac-10 baseball record for slugging percentage, the San Diego Padres selected Nady in the second round of the 2000 amateur draft.Calbears.com: Xavier Nady bio
Nady made his MLB debut on September 30, 2000. After four seasons in San Diego, the Padres sent Nady to the New York Mets in exchange for Mike Cameron.
