X-Men is an American comic book series published by Marvel Comics.
Background
X-Men is the second monthly Marvel title featuring the X-Men, a group of heroic mutants who use their powers to save humans that paradoxically shun them from society.
The series is referred to as "Volume 2" because Uncanny X-Men, prior to 1981, was also titled X-Men.
The second volume debuted in 1991 with different covers by artist Jim Lee. The issue sold over 8 million copies, making it the bestselling comic book to date.
Though the title of Volume 2 has since changed to New X-Men and later X-Men: Legacy, the featured group members have almost always included Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, and Professor X .
