Merchandising, Merchandising!

World Wrestling Entertainment (formerly the World Wrestling Federation) has always been known for its outlandish stories and larger than life characters. With pro wrestling's rise in popularity during the 1980s, it was only natural that the WWF would market merchandise. Wrestling was very popular among kids who often idolized the likes of Hulk Hogan and Rowdy Roddy Piper. The WWF capitalized on this by creating action figures of nearly every one of their wrestlers. WWF action figures became incredibly popular as fans wanted to collect each one. In addition to action figures, the WWF sold toy wrestling rings to go along with their other items.

Today, the WWE continues to market merchandise, including action figures for new superstars. T-shirts have become a big item, allowing fans to wear the shirt of their favorite wrestler. The wrestlers themselves will often wear their own T-shirts on television to help promote sales.
