The very first Royal Rumble event was held on January 24, 1988, at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario.http://www.wwe.com/shows/royalrumble/history/1988114/mainevent/ The first Royal Rumble match was won by Jim Duggan.This pay-per-view is part of WWE's big four events, the others being WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series.
The main feature of the pay-per-view is the 30-person Battle Royal type match in which two wrestlers in the ring start the match. The other wrestlers receive staggered entrances of one minute, 90 seconds or two minutes. Elimination is by being thrown over the top rope and having both feet touch the floor and the last wrestler to remain in the ring is declared the winner.
