No Mercy is an annual professional wrestling pay-per-view event held by World Wrestling Entertainment. The 2008 edition was held on October 5 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.
Event Info
No Mercy was originally a one-off UK-only WWE pay-per-view in May 1999, featuring a Triple Threat Match between Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Triple H in the main event. The following year, the WWE resurrected the "No Mercy" name for its October pay-per-view events.
There are no match types exclusive to No Mercy, and because of its calendar place, it is considered by some fans as just a placeholder event to keep storylines in play for the more interactive and gimmicky Cyber Sunday that follows it.
Memorable Matches
Perhaps the most "historic" No Mercy bout was the 1999 ladder match between the Hardy Boyz (then called "The New Brood") and the team of Edge and Christian. Both teams utilized the ladder in ways previously unheard of, revitalizing the match type as a huge fan favorite.
In 2002, Brock Lesnar shocked fans by defeating The Undertaker in a bloody Hell in a Cell match. Undertaker would be in the main event of every No Way Out for the following two years--and lose every time.
