In an attempt to garner more pay from DVD residuals, television syndication deals and online distribution of material, the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) went on strike on Monday, November 5, 2007. The guild went on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), an organization that represents the interests of film and television producers.

Resolution
On February 12, 2008 the WGA membership conducted a special vote to end the strike. In the vote, 92.5% of the guild members voted to lift the restraining order, allowing writers to return to work.
