As its tagline stated, WrestleMania XV was the "ragin' climax" to the ongoing feud between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vince McMahon. Austin defeated McMahon in a steel cage match the previous month, thereby earning his #1 contender spot against McMahon's "Corporate Champion," The Rock. The two wrestlers fought all over the First Union Center, slamming chairs and destroying tables. Despite interference by McMahon himself, referee Mankind kept the contest fair, resulting in a celebratory beer bash as the final bell sounded.
WrestleMania XV also marked the start of Triple H's rise to main event status, turning heel at the expense of his friend, X-Pac. By the end of 1999, Triple H was competing for the WWE Championship himself.
