WrestleMania returned to Madison Square Garden ten years after its debut in 1985. Though the WWE Championship was defended twice by Yokozuna during the event, most WWE fans remember the pay-per-view for the ladder match between Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels. The first of its kind to be televised on WWE programming, the ladder match saw both wrestlers performing high-risk maneuvers and creatively using the ladder as a weapon.
In the opening contest, brothers Owen Hart and Bret Hart wrestled a very technical match, each keeping up with the other hold for hold, reversal for reversal. The end result surprised some of the 18,000 fans in attendance, and started a competitive feud between the two that continued for the remainder of the year.
