  With Stone Cold Steve Austin out of action for a year due to neck surgery, Triple H rose to dominance by the time WrestleMania 2000 took place. In the storyline, Triple H married Vince McMahon's daughter Stephanie, thereby starting the "McMahon-Helmsley Era" that tore the McMahon family apart.

  In the main event, each McMahon supported a WWE superstar in the "Fatal Four-Way" elimination main event. Shane McMahon backed Big Show, Linda McMahon stood by Mick Foley (who wrestled under his real name), Stephanie accompanied Triple H, and Vince McMahon was in the corner of the favorite to win, The Rock.WWE.com: WrestleMania 2000 Main Event Though WrestleMania had a history of "faces" (good guys) always winning the main event, the outcome of this match shocked many of the fans in attendance.SLAM!   Perhaps the most memorable moment of the event happened earlier that night during the tag team triangle ladder match. In the aisle, Jeff Hardy dove off a tall ladder, swanton bombing opponent Bubba Ray Dudley through a table. The move took both competitors out for the rest of the match.SLAM!
