  • History of Jeans

Jeans were originally produced as a work pant for laborers and farmers. They originated in 1850, when German merchant Levi Strauss was living in San Francisco selling durable pants to mining camps. Within a few years he joined up with tailor Jacob Davis who had the idea to add copper rivets to pockets and outer seams. Together, the two became partners and patented the idea of Levi's jeans by 1873.
