Death Knight Origins

The first Death Knight was created by the former master of the Shadow Council, Gul'dan, who was tasked with creating a powerful new army for Orgrim Doomhammer. Gul'dan successfully instilled the spirit of Teron Gorefiend into the body of a fallen Stormwind knight, creating the first Death Knight. Gul'dan went on to create many more Death Knights, who took up residence in Draenor. After Draenor was destroyed, most of the Death Knights disappeared.
Years later, the Lich King created a new breed of Death Knights. Unlike Gul'dan's creations, modern death knights are mainly of paladins who lost their faith and pledged their souls to the Lich King in exchange for the promise of immortality. They eagerly await orders from the Lich King to unleash their fury on Azeroth once again.Official Site: Wrath of the Lich King Death Knight Lore
