Most of them are installed by copying the mod's folder to the /World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons directory on your computer. They can then be disabled or configured from within the game. Blizzard regularly releases patches, both minor and major. These can cause addon errors or stop a mod from working completely. Mod authors often time their addon updates to coincide with patch release dates.
