World Zionist Organization

  • The World Zionist Organization was founded in 1897 with the goal of creating a Jewish state of Israel in what was then Palestine. Formerly known as the "Zionist Organization" or "ZO" the World Zionist Organization was instrumental in the 1948 establishment of the state of Israel, contributing much of the early administrative infrastructure to the new government. This framework had been ironed out over successive meetings of the World Zionist Congress. This meeting, convening every four years, is an international, democratic, conference that sets the policies for the World Zionist Organization and Jewish Agency.
