The World UFO Day was originally celebrated on June 24th to commemorate the first widely publicized UFO sighting by Kenneth Arnold.
In 2001 the official date for the holiday has been changed to July 2nd, the date of the Roswell Incident - an alleged UFO crashed in New Mexico desert on that particular date.
Purpose of the UFO Day celebration is to increase people's awareness of the UFO phenomenon and its implications, and to encourage individuals, as well as governments, to engage more openly and proactively with this important issue.
