Wooden Advent calendars are a traditional way to celebrate the Christian liturgical season of Advent, which begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and ends on Christmas Day. Most wooden Advent calendars feature tiny doors, or drawers, for each day leading up to December 25. Inside are images of the Nativity, sweet chocolate treats or other small gifts.
Wooden Advent calendars can be purchased online from many major Christmas retail stores. They come in a variety of designs and colors, many featuring classic Christmas motifs such as Santa Claus or Christmas trees. Other wooden calendars feature more religious themes, including images of the Baby Jesus or the Three Wise Men. Each door may feature a specific design. Unlike the paper Advent calendars, wooden Advent calendars can be enjoyed year after year. They can be given as gifts and used each holiday.
