Women

A woman is an adult female human usually having feminine qualities. More then one woman or a group is called women.http://www.thefreedictionary.com/woman Woman usually refers to a female adult rather then a female child. A female child is generally called a girl.

The change from girl to woman happens during puberty. During female puberty higher levels of estrogen begins to be released in the body. This can starts as early as age 7 or as late as 16 years of age. This causes changes in the body that includes the development of female breasts with the ability to produce milk and the capacity to conceive and carry developing fetus in her body. These changes give her the ability and option to be a mother and make her unique from males.

Women live an average of 5 to 10 years longer then men. This is due to number of factors. One reason is that women tend to develop heart problems later in years then men. Another is the fact that women contain two X chromosomes and men have only one X chromosome along with a Y chromosome. A third reason is that men go through what is called a “testosterone storm” in their late teens and 20s. This can bring on dangerous behavior and this behavior leads to a higher death rate among young men. The role of women has change dramatically during the last 150 years in the United States. In the early years of American history, women typically cared for the home and children. Women were often considered less intelligent and weaker then men. Formal education was more likely given to boys. However, the passing of the Equity law in the 1840’s started the changes in how women were viewed. Shortly after that, women began working outside the home in greater numbers. The 1960’s brought several federal laws that improved the lot of women. Over time, more women were educated and took on better paying jobs. Today there is less of a discrepancy between the job market of men and women in many developed countries. Women can feel free to make the choice to work, what kind of job she would like to do or to be a homemaker, as her circumstances permit.http://www.wic.org/misc/history.htm
