Wolfgang Van Halen is the son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli. In late 2006, Wolfgang began playing bass with his father's band Van Halen, effectively replacing the band's original bassist Michael Anthony. Anthony's departure from the band is speculated to have been related to Eddie's disapproval of his affiliation with former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar. Wolfgang has been widely accepted as Anthony's replacement by critics and fans. His performance as part of the band's 2007-2008 Tour garnered a positive review in Rolling Stone, which said that he "held his own with style, grace and grit."
