The University of Wisconsin's college football team has competed in the Big Ten Conference since 1896, winning it 11 times. The Badgers play in Camp Randall Stadium, which many college football fans regard as the most raucous environment in Division I.
The Badgers fell to the Florida State Seminoles, 42-13, in the Champs Sports Bowl on December 27, 2008.ESPN.com: Wisconsin Badgers Vs. Florida State Seminoles Box Score, December 27, 2008
The Alvarez Era
Serving over a quarter-century as head coach, Barry Alvarez took the Badgers from perennial cellar-dwellers to annual Big Ten title competitors. He won three conference titles, three Rose Bowls and finished in the top ten nationally three times as well. Alvarez is the program's winningest coach and holds the best winning percentage of any Division I coach in bowl games. He stepped aside as the Badgers' football coach in 2006, but retained his position as the university's athletic director.Timeline
