  • The Winthrop Eagles Men's Basketball team plays NCAA Men's Basketball in the Big South Conference. The Eagles have won the Big South Tournament title four straight seasons counting 2008, and have won 8 of the last 10 tournaments held. Because of this, the Eagles have appeared in the NCAA Tournament eight different times. The most successful of these appearances came in the 2007 tournament, when as an 11th seeded team, they knocked off Notre Dame for their first ever tournament victory. Randy Peele took over as head coach this season, following a successful run by Gregg Marshall.
