The inspiration for Winnie the Pooh came from a combination of a black bear named Winnie at the London zoo, and a teddy bear owned by Milne's son. The character Christopher Robin is based on Milne's son and the other characters were his son's toys, with the exception of Rabbit and Owl.The first book about Winnie the Pooh was written in 1926, followed by The House on Pooh Corner in 1928, with Ernest Shepard as the illustrator.
The rights to Pooh and his friends were purchased by Disney in 1966, where they have been featured in television programs, films and products.

"I ought to say," explained Pooh as they walked down to the shore of the island, "that it isn't just an ordinary sort of boat. Sometimes it's a Boat, and sometimes it's more of an Accident. It all depends.""Depends on what?"
"On whether I'm on the top of it or underneath it."WinniePooh.org: Winnie the Pooh Quotes
"When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"
"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"
"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.WinniePooh.org: Winnie the Pooh Quotes
