  • Windows Server 2008 is the successor to Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2008 is built on the NT 6.0 kernel like Microsoft Windows Vista. It was previously known as "Longhorn" until Bill Gates claimed that the new name would be Windows Server 2008.

  • Features

    Because Windows Server 2008 is built with the same basic code of Windows Vista, it shares many of the same features of Vista, but it does have a few unique features that are not available in Vista. Windows Server 2008 features a self-healing NTFS file system in which the file system fixes itself instead of having to be taken offline and reformatted or fixed manually. It also doesn't lock out while doing this. New to this operating system is Windows PowerShell, which is an advanced command shell and scripting language to perform common administrative tasks.
