Willie Dixon was a Grammy Award-winning blues musician, producer and singer-songwriter. His songs have been recorded by countless blues and rock artists, including Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, and The Grateful Dead.
Career
Dixon began preforming in Chicago and helped form the Five Breezes, a group that blended blues, jazz and vocals. After spending 10 months in prison for avoiding World War II, Dixon formed the group Four Jumps of Jive and then later Big Three Trio which signed with Columbia Records.
Dixon later became an employee of Chess Records and where he filled several positions. Dixon also became a producer of Checker Records working with Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley to name a few.
Dixon is remembered as a popular blues songwriter and his contribution to the blues lives on with his legacy.
