Willie Bloomquist is a Major League Baseball (MLB) infielder with the Seattle Mariners. He is widely appreciated by the Mariners for his versatility as a role player. He also has good speed which makes him an excellent pinch runner.
Early Life
William Paul Bloomquist was born in Bremerton, Washington on November 27, 1977. He attended South Kitsap High School in Washington where he was selected in the eighth round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft. He would not be signed by the team. He would later move on to attend Arizona State University. In 1999, he would be drafted again by the Seattle Mariners, this time with the 95th pick in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft.
Pro Career
Bloomquist would make his Major League debut on September 1, 2002. He would establish himself as a valuable utility player, and spot starter for the Mariners. His versatility makes him a valuable member of the team, especially when players go down in injuries and in late inning situations where they need a pinch runner, hitter, or defensive replacement.
