  • 27-year-old New Zealand resident William Singalargh has been charged with using a hedgehog as a weapon after throwing the animal at a 15-year-old boy. Singalargh could face up to 5 years in prison for the incident, which occurred in the town of Whakatane on February 9, 2008.

Singalargh allegedly threw the hedgehog at the leg of his victim, causing a welt and several puncture marks. No medical treatment was required. The hedgehog was already dead when found by police - it is unclear whether it was killed during the incident or whether Singalargh found it that way.

According to Singalargh's lawyer, Rebecca Plunket, he plans to plead innocent.
