Foreign Policy

Named the 100-day war, the United States destroyed Spanish navel fleets outside Santiago harbor, strategically seized Manila and occupied Puerto Rico. Upon the conclusion of the conflict, McKinley decided annex the Philippines, Guam, and Puerto Rico to avoid growing imperialist sentiment towards the U.S. abroad. -
