William Lloyd Garrison was one of the most influential abolitionist leaders in America during the years that led up to the American Civil War. Through his newspaper, The Liberator, he passionately argued for an immediate and absolute freedom for all people held in slavery.

1854: Burns publicly a copy of the U.S. Constitution.
1863: January 1st, experiences Lincoln's signing of the Emancipation Proclamation
1879: May 24th, dies at his daughter's home in New York City.
