William Jefferson Trial

  • The Trial of William Jefferson, a Congressman from Louisiana, began on January 16, 2007. William Jefferson was indicted on 16 criminal counts including racketeering, soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money laundering and obstruction of justice. The trial has been on hold since February, 2008 after the defense contested testimony allegedly in violation of the constitution's "Speech and Debate" clause. The defense's appeal is expected to take months to reach a decision, postponing the trial for an unknown amount of time.
