William J. Clinton Foundation

  • Former president Bill Clinton founded the William J. Clinton Foundation in 1997. Working in cooperation with local, national and international governments and non governmental organizations, the foundation strives to fulfill its mission "to strengthen the capacity of people throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence."     On December 18, 2008, a 2,922-page list of names of those who had donated funds to the foundation and a dollar range of the amounts they contributed was released on its official website. Although the foundation had previously resisted disclosing the names of its donors, Bill Clinton agreed to do so when Hillary Clinton was nominated for Secretary of StateCNN: Clinton's foundation got millions from Saudis, Gates (December 18, 2008) The largest donors were UNITAID and The Children's Investment Fund Foundation, who both donated over $25 million.     A few days after the donor list was published, the New York Post listed several "dubious donors," claiming they were riddled with scandal.
