William Hurt was nominated for three Best Actor Oscars in a row from 1985 to 1987, winning once for Kiss of the Spider Woman. He spent most of the 1980s appearing in serious leading man roles, but recently has begun to explore smaller character parts, such as with his Oscar-nominated performance in 2005's A History of Violence.
In an interview with Access Hollywood's Nancy O'Dell, actress Marlee Matlin, Hurt's ex girlfriend, revealed details of her alleged abusive relationship with Hurt stating "I was afraid. I was always afraid. But I loved him. I always had fresh bruises everyday." Matlin's new book, I’ll Scream Later, chronicles her life with the actor.Access Hollywood: Marlee Matlin Reveals Alleged Abusive Relationship (April 13, 2009)
