The execution of William Castillo of Nevada for the crime of murdering an elderly woman with a tire iron was delayed by the state's Supreme Court on October 16, 2007, around 90 minutes before it was set to take place. An appeal from death penalty opponents argued that the state should await the upcoming ruling of The U.S. Supreme Court on the constitutionality of lethal injections.
