Will Downing

Will Downing is a popular contemporary jazz and R&B singer-songwriter, producer, and performer. Downing released his self titled debut album in 1988, which included a version of the John Coltrane song "A Love Supreme". His website calls him the "Prince of Sophisticated Soul". In 2006, Will Downing was diagnosed with Polymyositis. Polymyositis is the serious inflammation of muscle fibres, and it ultimately made Downing wheelchair-bound. He has stated that he waited until he had serious symptoms before visiting a doctor and that his diagnosis was quick due to the severity of his illness. Though the disease has taken its tole, Will Downing continues to record as he is able. He notes that 2007 was a rough year for him as it was the year following his diagnosis. It took time for him to adjust to and accept his new condition.
