Civil War preservationists are trying to stop Wal-Mart from building a Supercenter near the historical Wilderness Battlefield. The planned Wal-Mart would be near the entrance to the site where Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant first fought in 1864, in Virginia. Over 250 historians and scholars urged Wal-Mart's CEO H.Lee Scott to build the new Walmart farther from the historical landmark. A spokesperson for Wal-mart said "we are not building on the battlefield."FOXNews.com: Wal-Mart, Historians Battle Over Building Store Near Civil War Site (January 2, 2009)

tjb84 added a comment August 25, 2009 11:18 PM| ReportThis is very very sickening.People in this country seem to have forgotten how this country, and why this country was formed. We are losing our foothold on humanity.Any battlefield no matter what war what continent should not be desturbed. so that we may remember what our ancestores have fought and died for through all the years of history. This disgusted me and this battlefield which is a civil war battle field should have never been a option for a site to put a wal-mart. There are many places that could be a idea sitebesides a civil war battle field which should always be preserved by the people of this country and thry should never be forgotten. -
