The Wii Wheel is a Nintendo Wii peripheral packaged with Mario Kart Wii. It can also be purchased separately with an MSRP of $9.99. The wheel was initially shipped April 27, 2008, the same date as the intial shipment of Mario Kart Wii. The Wii Wheel is also compatible with previous racing titles, such as Excite Truck, that share its sideways steering control configuration. The wheel has a hole on its back right side for use of the wrist strap while the Wii Remote is attached, and for easy removal of the remote from the wheel. The pointing function of the Wii Remote can still be used while the wheel is inserted in the peripheral.
