Burger King's signature sandwich, the original Whopper consists of a 1/4-pound hamburger patty, sesame seed bun, mayonnaise, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, and onions. Burger King founder James McLamore originated the sandwich in 1957, and sold it in his restaurants for 37 cents each. Since the Whopper's creation, rival restaurants Wendy's and McDonald's have sought to promote competitive products like the Big Classic, and the Big N' Tasty.
